Save
a life

This
is the shortest first aid course offered by Houston
Medical Ltd. It covers key adult life-saving skills
and provides an opportunity to practice your newly
acquired skills.

Should attend those who are looking for a quick
introduction to basic, first aid skills.

Includes placing an unconscious person in the
recovery position.

Participants will be taught how to lift the chin to
open the airway, give effective rescue breaths and
perform chest compressions. All learners will be
given the opportunity to practice their skills on a
resuscitation manikin.

Participants will learn how to deal with mild and
severe choking for adults.
-
The
duration is 2 hours minimum. The course can be
lengthened in accordance with the needs of students.

This
course is often not formally assessed and
participants leave with a voucher of attendance.
This is subject to local discretion.

Basic first aid course

This
is the most popular first aid course offered by
Houston Medical Ltd. The programme focuses on key
life-saving skills, provides an opportunity to learn
the first aid response to the most common accidents
and situations, and is underpinned by relevant
theory.

Should attend those wanting a basic understanding of
emergency care as well as a basic grasp of related
clinical theories.

Includes placing an unconscious person in the
recovery position.

Participants will be taught how to lift the chin to
open the airway, give effective rescue breaths and
perform chest compressions. All learners will be
given the opportunity to practice their skills on a
resuscitation manikin.

Participants will learn how to deal with mild and
severe choking for adults.

Participants will cover all of the following by
observation:
Significant blood loss
Shock
Muscular / skeletal injury
Burns and Scalds

The
durations is approximately 7 hours.

This
course is often formally assessed and participants
will leave with either a certificate of competence
or a voucher of attendance. This is subject to local
discretion.

Standard Certificate
-
This
is the most comprehensive first aid training
programme In addition to key life saving skills and
response to common emergencies, it also deals with
common minor medical complaints.

The
length of the programme allows for a thorough
analysis of emergency situations involving adults,
children and babies. Participants are given ample
opportunity to practice the wide range of skills
taught. This programme also covers a significant
amount of theory.

This
course is suitable for those seeking a thorough
understanding and wide range of skills for both
minor conditions and major emergencies relating to
adults, children and infants.

The
course also aims to provide you with significant
knowledge of the supporting clinical theories.
-
Participants will learn how to deal with mild and
severe choking for adults, children and babies.

Participants will cover all of the following by
observation:
Significant blood loss
Shock
Muscular / skeletal injury
Burns and Scalds
-
At
least two of the following major illnesses will be
covered by observation; the remainder will be
covered by questioning: Stroke, heart attack,
diabetes, epilepsy, anaphylaxis, angina, asthma,
febrile seizures, epiglottitis, croup, and
meningitis

The
following will be covered either by observation or
questioning:
Head injury
Spinal injury
Poisoning
Eye injury
Suffering from the effects of temperatures extremes
Crush injury
-
Participants will cover at least two of the
following minor injuries and illnesses by
observation; the rest will be covered through
questioning: small wounds and grazes, burns and
scalds, blisters, splinters and stings, crushed
fingers, headache, earache Toothache, abdominal
pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, allergic reactions,
fever, sore throat, fainting, and cramp.

The
duration is approximately 28 hours.

This
course is often formally assessed and participants
will leave with either a certificate of competence
or a voucher of attendance. This is subject to local
discretion.
